Getting Started

Prerequisites

  • A Zoom account with host or co-host permissions
  • Zoom Desktop Client version 5.2.0 or higher
  • An active Zoom meeting to use the app

Step 1: Install from the Zoom Marketplace

  1. Log in at zoom.us  and navigate to the Zoom App Marketplace
  2. Search for “Triad Tool” and click the result
  3. Click “Add” or “Install”
  4. Review the permission request and click “Authorize”
  5. Complete the OAuth authorization — you’ll be redirected back to Zoom

Step 2: Open Triad Tool in a Meeting

  1. Start or join a Zoom meeting as host
  2. Click “Apps” in the meeting toolbar
  3. Find Triad Tool in your installed apps and click it
  4. The app opens in a sidebar panel on the right

First time? If a sign-in prompt appears, complete the OAuth flow to authenticate. This is expected after a fresh marketplace install.

What You’ll See

After opening the app:

  • Hosts and co-hosts see all 4 tabs: Timer, Breakout Monitor, Actions, Settings
  • Regular attendees see only Timer and Settings

Step 3: Tell Participants Their Name Format

For automatic language-based grouping, participants should add a two-letter language code at the start of their Zoom display name before the meeting:

EN John Doe → grouped with other EN participants DE Maria Schmidt → grouped with other DE participants FR Pierre Dubois → grouped with other FR participants ES Carlos García → grouped with other ES participants NT Facilitator → excluded from breakout rooms (No Triad)

Built-in language tags: EN, DE, ES (plus any custom tags you add in Settings)

Participants without a language prefix can be routed to a specific language room or kept in the main meeting — configure this in Settings → Language Tags → No Tag Handling.

Step 4: Configure Before the Meeting

Before participants join, set up in Settings:

  1. Timer durations — default check-in, round, and fadeout times
  2. Group size — how many participants per breakout room (default: 3)
  3. Number of rounds — match this to your group size for equal speaking time
  4. Break titlecard — upload your background image and set the text template
